Compress Pictures in Word

Created by Gregory Boyle, Modified on Thu, 24 Sep at 3:34 PM by Gregory Boyle

  1. Open the document in Word.
  2. Click any picture.
  3. Go to Picture Format → Compress Pictures.
  4. Untick Apply only to this picture.
  5. Tick Delete cropped areas of pictures.
  6. Choose a resolution:
    • 220 ppi (High fidelity): minimal quality loss.
    • 150 ppi: good for most documentation and Freshdesk articles.
    • 96 ppi: suitable for on-screen viewing only.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Save the document as a new file and compare sizes.

A document with dozens of screenshots can often shrink by 50-90% using this method.
